About Rick Bandazian Jr.

A career trader focused on discipline, positioning, and asymmetric risk.

My background

My background spans proprietary trading, global bank desks, and family-office portfolios. I built my foundation in event-driven markets, where preparation and risk control determine who survives. That same standard now drives my macro work—markets move when ownership shifts, not when narratives sound convincing.

Most of my career was intentionally private. Over time, I realized the most useful thing I could share is not a hot take, but a way of thinking: how to read positioning, define risk, and stay in the game.

What I’m known for

In event-driven markets, I became known for mapping scenarios, sizing risk, and trading accordingly across mergers, restructurings, and special situations. That experience now shapes how I approach macro: focusing on how participants behave under pressure and where that creates asymmetric opportunity.

The short version of my path

I came up through Wall Street, learned quickly what I did not want, and moved toward work with a real-time report card.
I started in investment banking, then moved into prop trading and event-driven work where preparation and judgment matter.
Over time, I traded through multiple cycles, then went independent and built a live process designed to hold up under scrutiny from serious professionals.
I do not run outside money. That’s intentional. I prefer trading my own book and diving in deep on research.
Some people find me through interviews, podcasts, or friends/fam. If that’s how you landed here, welcome. This site is meant to be useful, not promotional.

Everything you need to know

This is for:

  • Traders and PMs who want positioning context they can apply within their own process
  • Advisors and family offices seeking cross-asset regime insight and narrative validation or contradiction
  • Teams that prioritize risk discipline over being right
  • Investors who want to prepare for the next headline, not react to it

This is not for:

  • Anyone looking for “buy this today” hand-holding
  • People who want entertainment dressed up as research

My bias is boring, on purpose.

Process over prediction. Calm under pressure. No hype, no theatrics.

I’m not interested in building a content machine. I’m interested in building something repeatable that helps people make better decisions when it matters.

Trading is lonely work. I’ve always liked the contrast of being part of a real team, with real stakes, and a clear role.

I served as a volunteer firefighter. The mindset stays with me: preparation, steadiness in chaos, and respect for forces bigger than you.
